Some Problems You Complain About Are Doing A Job For You

Not every problem you talk about wants to be solved.

I don't mean that as an insult. I mean it as something worth noticing.

There's usually one thing in your life that comes up again and again. The same client. The same habit. The same argument with the same person. You've had the conversation about it a dozen times, and somehow it's still exactly where you left it.

If it were purely about the obstacle, you'd have found a way around it by now. You're resourceful everywhere else.

So something else is going on.

Complaints do work you don't always notice.

They win you sympathy without asking for it.
They explain away everything else you haven't done.
They connect you to people who share the same complaint.
They excuse the bigger decision sitting underneath.

Here's the uncomfortable question I'd ask instead of "how do I fix this."

What would I lose if this problem disappeared tomorrow?

Sometimes the honest answer is nothing, and you fix it that week.

But sometimes the answer is a sympathetic ear, an excuse, or a reason to avoid a bigger decision you're not ready to name yet. That's not weakness. It's just information you haven't looked at directly.

A real problem wants a solution. A costume problem wants an audience.

The test isn't how often you mention it. It's whether you'd actually be relieved if it vanished, or quietly unsure what you'd talk about instead.

Question: What's one complaint you keep repeating, and what would you actually lose if it disappeared tomorrow?
