Many people assume that if two yarns are both labelled the same weight, they'll produce the same result. Unfortunately, that's not always true. Different fibres, construction, and gauge can all affect the finished size of your project, even when the yarns have the same weight category.

Understanding gauge is one of the biggest steps you can take toward becoming a more confident circular machine knitter. Once you understand it, choosing substitute yarns becomes much less of a guessing game and you'll have far more success with your projects.
